FILM RESTORATION, WITH RESTRAINT

A second life.
The same film.

Remove the damage. Keep the character.
A careful workspace for your original film.

Every frame has a history.
Let’s preserve it.

PRESERVATION ON
03 / PRIVATE FILM TEST

One passage. A careful comparison.

Runway Aleph 2.0 · 2–8 seconds · H.264 MP4 · up to 4 MB and 1080p

Private testing

Use a separate test copy and keep your scan master. Importing stays local; “Prepare test” sends the whole short clip to Runway. Rendering starts only after you confirm the price. ProRes and 4K master uploads are planned for a later stage.

Grain suppression, sharpening and upscaling are off. A generative repair can still alter texture or detail: this is a fidelity experiment, not a verified restoration. Runway pricing ↗

01

Start with a small passage

Load your reel. Choose up to 32 seconds.
Give each repair the attention it deserves.

02

Preserve before you enhance

Keep the grain, colour and original dimensions.
Every enhancement is an explicit choice.

03

Always return to the original

Compare each generated candidate frame by frame
against your untouched scan.

Restoration begins with respect.

A film’s grain, texture and movement belong to it. Renew is being built to address damage with the smallest useful intervention.

Preservation by defaultGrain suppression is off. Source dimensions, colour, frame rate and original audio are part of the preservation brief.

You make the choicesChoose the damage to address. Sharpening, upscaling and stabilization are separate, deliberate requests.

One honest step at a timePreview locally, prepare a brief and run one private Runway test. Automated damage analysis, masks, trimming, stitching and verified master exports are future work.

Runway · Aleph 2.0

Our first experiment uses Runway’s video-to-video editing. Test copies must be 2–8 seconds, H.264 MP4, 4 MB or smaller, at constant frame rate up to 30 fps and no larger than 1080p. Generative edits are candidates for review. ProRes and 4K master uploads remain planned; native 4K restoration needs a suitable processing method.
